What I Learned This Week

Last week I found myself house hunting with my sister. Not only did we scour the neighborhood for something that would fit her entire family (three dogs, six cats, and a girlfriend), we looked for one with extra additives. I found myself upset about the fact that she didn’t even tell me she didn’t care about price. If I would have known that in advance I would have been able to find her a humble abode in a matter of hours! I’m just glad that she’s all settled in; although, with all those animals it seems like a zoo in there.

Last week we celebrated our company anniversary in Mont Kiara. The night was young, everyone was dressed up to the nines and even my normally serious boss seemed more relaxed. The celebration was held at the poolside gazebo. Upbeat music wafted through the air. You could hear the clinking of glasses and soft laughter all around. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. I have been preparing for this night for a long time. I knew that I was due for a promotion and it was going to be announced tonight. That is why I splurged for the occasion. I bought a slinky black Vera Wang gown and a pair of silver Jimmy Choos. The entire outfit was horrendously expensive. I would probably regret this tomorrow. But as I caught my reflection on large window I banished the thought. I looked amazing. I fully deserved this outfit. Needless to say I did get the promotion that night. And as I walked up the stage to deliver my acceptance speech I thought, this was the best night of my life.

Housing development group Great Place -who secured the homes for a great price – is taking part in the social housing scheme which should see the homes improved, re-developed and put back into the council’s social housing pool rather than languishing in the unwanted bargain bin of Northern commercial property to let.
What looks fishy about the deal? The government has outlined its commitment to encouraging the private sector to fill the gaps in public spending, so this should be a prime example of private sector council partnerships – Cameron’s big society?
The part of the history of Crystal road that has provoked local outrage and accusations of ‘big brown envelope under the table’ society is that the council only recently purchased this portfolio of properties, before selling it on to Great Place at the nominal price of £3. Blackpool county council has a long history of alleged corruption; the seaside town is among the country’s most rotten – according to public opinion.
Great Place, and the estate agents they will work with to sell and rent the completed properties, stand to do incredibly well out of the deal – while the taxpayer is left out of pocket.
